You and me - Mr Bingley and Jane + films' reviews

Another fanvid I made ~ this time it's about Lost in Austen and in particular about Jane and Charles's relationships <3 because they're just so cute and they're my favourite characters in the book!!!

.. and now, a short review about the last film I've seen at the cinema: S. Darko.
Unfortunately it was quite disappointing. Despite all the bad reviews I had heard I went to the cinema trying to have no prejudices about the new film, but I can see why the new project was not blessed by the writer of Donnie Darko, Richard Kelly. Because Donnie Darko didn't need a sequel.
The plot of the new film had way too many things copied from the previous one and often they were not just sentences or similar things that could be useful to excite Donnie Darko's fans, they were entire scenes filmed just in the same way, only with different characters!! Not really original.
What's more, the characters were not very well developed, the conversations not brilliant and they didn't give me any particular issue to wonder about, maybe with the only exception of a phrase said by Jeremy, not too original though.
Unlike the previous film, this did not contain a real critic about society, except for some element against preachers and religion already present in Donnie Darko. Finally, someone can explain to me why, if in the previous film we have been said something about the Philosophy of Time Travels described in the book by Roberta Sparrow, now no one follows any rule to create a time vortex and just have nightmares that lead them in the past??
After seeing the film I was just confused and couldn't figure out was I was missing.. but I'm afraid that this film's plot is just too weak to be a real sequel of Donnie Darko and probably there's not really so much to understand.

Anyway, the next months seem to be full of great events for what concerns cinema and films!!
There are quite a few that I'm not gonna miss!! :D
For what concerns Italy, here in September there's the release of Cheri, with Michelle Pfeiffer and Ruper Friend and the Ice Age 3. The latter should be fun as usual, but I'm really curious about the first one. I've just read Colette's book, Cheri, and I enjoyed it quite a lot. It was poetic, sad and at the same time bright, soft and frivolous. Like the director said, Colette describes things like an impressionist. You see the mouvement of the light and the colours and everything is so sweet, so shallow yet so dramatic. I think that the choice of Michelle in the role of Léa is just perfect and Rupert seems to make a very good Cheri. I'm looking forward to see it ^^

Then, a new film directed by Tim Burton will be released on 09/09/09 but strangely enough no one is talking a about it now.. the title is 9 and it is an animated film, apparently very visionary and with a lot of action. Then in October it's the turn of Parnassus, a new film by Terry Gillian, another film full of visions, imagination, adventures starring the Heath Ledger in his last great performance, Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell and Jude Law. The trailer is just amazing, I can't wait to see it!!!

Another film I'm waiting for in October is Dorian Gray, starring Ben Barnes. I'm a huge fan of Oscar Wilde's book and I think that Ben is so handsome he fits Dorian perfectly... even if I'm afraid the director did not respect the book's plot very much. The trailer seems more extreme and what's more they added a character that did not exist: Sir Henry Wottom's daughter. Why is that??

Others films released in November/December are Hachiko, a dog's tale starring Richard Gere (the trailer made me cry already), Avatar directed by James Cameron and... last but not least, coming on 5th March 2010 is Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland!!!
I'm waiting from this film since it was announced and I think it's going to be fantastic!! I really would like to see it in 3d at the IMAX (possibly in London, eheh) and the cast is great *-* Johnny Depp, Helena Boham Carter, Anne Hathaway..
Burton seems to have made a mix between Alice in Wonderland and Through the looking glass (like Disney had already made in his cartoon), all in his unique and particular dark and visionary style.

Graduation and other (useless) updates

It seems I'm not updating the blog from a loooong time! xD
No one should have missed it though ^^'' the problem is that social networks completely absorbed my on-line activity.. and I'm also lazy, of course.

Since last post some wonderful things happened!!!
For example I went on a short but exciting journey to Scotland ♥
It was a great experience since I was able to visit Edinburgh and Glasgow and to meet some friends who live there! It was really lovely and I'm looking forward to go back there and visit also other parts of Scotland *-*

Last week I even graduated!
After months of work my dissertation resulted quite a long work and even if I was very nervous about it, my professors appreciated it and gave me the highest votation ^-^
It was so satisfying! It really has been an important experience which gave me some self-confidence and some aspirations for the future, I didn't expect that, but it is such a good thing.
I also didn't want anyone around during the discussion (I get more nervous if people are listening >.< ) but in the end, I was so focused on my work I hardly noticed them and it was quite a good sensation being hugged and complimented once the discussion was finished, I must admit it. Compliments on my intellect makes me weak and I give in to happiness. Among the big news there's also my new kitty ^-^ aww, he's lovely. Lively and lovely.

Yesterday night I watched Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince. I must say that I'm a huge fan of the HP books but usually not very satisfied with the films adaptations. Despite this, this one was spectacular *-* some scenes were just perfect!!!
I enjoyed very much the initial scene filmed in London (London... I miss you), and the whole plot was very well balanced and structured and didn't leave too many things behind (only a few... but that can't be helped). Unfortunately there weren't enough scenes involving the Weasley twins ._. pity.


My current obsessions (they change from time to time) are: the Internet (but that's a constant), Youtube, Twitter, the Phelps twins, David Tennant, the English accents (that's also kind of a constant), Dark Cabaret music, Web Marketing, Python (the programming language). And I want to travel... to the Uk of course, or to Ireland.

Ooh and I bought my new archery bow finally!!
It's black... and cool *-*

I'm also going to see a Placebo's concert tomorrow! I'm excited about it but I hope the weather will be cooler than today, cause now it's impossible to stand -_-

What about holidays? I have no real holidays.. I mean, of course I have nothing to do (one of the reasons why I'm writing here), but I can't travel.. and I have to find a temporary job >.<>
I'm waiting for my boyfriend to come home.. so he will also lend me his notebook and I can watch Dr Who seasons in HD *-* .. that's what he promises me when I'm angry (I'm often angry, so I expect at least all Tennant's seasons please).

The positive note (at least for me) is that I decided to go on studying next year and apply for a Master degree in Information and Technology opened to students from other courses. I feel like this graduation experience opened my mind more than all the University courses as a whole did, and on a deeper level, I'm trying to learn and derive my strenght from my curiousity and my desire of knowdledge. That's what makes me go on in some hard moments and even if it sounds silly, it's a new awareness that helps me going on and relying on myself. I want to feel part of the world by learning and working with other people on things that are not merely made of words and opinions but that are built on a logical basis and that can innovate the world and get rid of old schemes. I'm not making my point very clear, I know, but it's not easy.
I feel like most of my knowdledge so far is a train without a proper rail.. it makes me feel incomplete.

Well, I think that this monologue can stop here... I was just annoyed by this non-updated blog!! xD

Lucca Comics 2008!

Hello everyone!!
I should have written this entry before, but lately I'm incredibly lazy.. more than usual actually.

Lucca Comics has been really enjoyable! ^^ The weather forecast were mistaken and it was a sunny day.
We arrived a little late but we spent a lot of time in the stalls and walking around, watching the cosplayers and taking pictures of them.
As usual there were so many nice cosplays! On Saturday we were also able to see the cosplay contest where every cosplayer can make a "sketch", that usually is very funny. It was incredible!!
Lucca Comics is like a magic event for me.. it is so beautiful to feel free to have so much fun with people who shares your interests and seem to belong to the same fantastic world.

Unfortunately, being Saturday there was an incredible crowd! Some places were so crowded we had an hard time trying to look for manga and everything else.
I didn't buy many things as well and it's quite strange!!

There were also some stalls selling noodles, so we were able to eat them... it was so nice!!! ^__^

Next year we are planning to spend there at least 2 days, so we can visit the whole convention and enjoy it at best!

Now that I've finished watching all season 2 of Robin Hood I'm watching the new bbc drama "Merlin" and I'm enjoying it quite a lot!!!
My favourite character so far is Merlin ^^ he's cute :) I want him to be rewarded for all he's doing!!

Another happy news is: I finally started my archery course!! I'm so happy!!!

Not one heartbeat do I forget..

I know I'm not updating the blog from a long time.. even if many things happened! I'm sorry, but I'm too lazy ^^;

During the summer I went to London and it was great.. I really enjoyed my staying and I'm often very nostalgic about it!! ç.ç

Since I promised to some Austenian friends I would have showed them at least the pictures of my journey to the Jane Austen's museum in Chawton (Hampshire) I'm going to do it now ^_^

Actually, I have not many pictures to show here, mainly for two reasons:


1) It was forbidden to take pictures inside the house, so I can only describe it to you. But maybe you can find something more here.

2) In most pictures there's an element of great disturb: me. So I cannot post them.




It wasn't easy to arrive there.. only a true austenian fan could manage it!! XD
We went to Alton by train in the morning and we arrived there in almost an hour. It was a nice, quiet place, with beautiful houses, but no indications or buses at all ^^"
We walked through the whole town and at last we found an information office where they explained to us that waiting for the bus was useless and they gave us a map to Jane Austen's house in Chawton.
That day was very cold (as usual) and we took the wrong road and had some accidents due to my ability in walking in countryside's paths.
First I stumbled in a blackberry bush (and it had thorns ç.ç) and then I slipped and fell because the path was wet with rain and I hurt myself ^^"

At last we arrived to Chawton and to the house!! ^__^
This is the house where Jane and her mother and sister lived after her father's death.
We wandered for a while in the garden and then we found the entrance.
The man at the reception was very kind and he told us something about the objects in the hall room.

In the house there were dresses like the ones Jane could have worn at the time, objects used in the kitchen, etc.
All around the house there were "posters" with description of Jane's life, beautiful drawings, etc.
Upstairs we saw the bedrooms. In a room there were also two statues of Jane and Cassandra, talking in their bedroom after a ball.

It was so exciting.. being in the place where she has lived and where she has written or adjusted some of her novels!
In the low ground there was a book shop where I found some of her books at just 1.99 pound. There were also some posters and postcards, or souvenirs like pens, writing paper, etc.


The garden was also very pretty. The flowers and all the plants were really well arranged and there was a person who took care of them all the time.
We sat on a bench and read for a while, it was really a good sensation.

In front of the house there is a lovely tea shop called "Cassandra's cup" where we had tea and cake. We also walked in a little park and along the countryside's paths.. I must say the landscape was really beautiful! I had a wonderful time.

During my staying in London I visited many other places I'd like to talk about... but now I will just attach some pictures of them here:

It was one of the places I liked the most.

Camdem Town. I love this place!! A big market, many strange shops, a lot of ethnic food.. and when we went there it was always raining..

What's more?
After September's exams it seems I'm waiting for something to happen... because I'm still waiting for someone to call me for a work stage but if it does not happen I cannot plan everything else I have to do. I'm trying though. I wonder if I will ever graduate if it continues like this -__-

AUSTENIAN NEWS
(beware of spoilers about Lost in Austen!!)

- Yesterday I watched the last episode of Lost in Austen... it was moving!!!! I'm so happy that it ended like this.. I started crying exactly at minute 40!

How sweet ç__ç Bingley and Jane are ALWAYS the best..!!!
(quotation: "we shall have 25 children.. and name them all Amanda.. even the boys!!") XD

- I received the book "Fitzwilliam Darcy, Gentleman - An assembly such as this" by Pamela Aidan, describing Pride and Prejudice from the point of view of Darcy... I hope it is well-done. Once I have read it I will give my opinion.

OTHER NEWS

- Thanks to my friend Faith, I became addicted to the bbc drama Robin Hood!! It's really good..!! I'm still at the first season now..
